1513. Wandering the Oasis

I continue towards the east, with mountains to my left and valley to my right, where shortly I should reconnect with the hike I did a couple weeks ago in the Ameln Valley . Soon I reach another village with some gigantic homes—which most likely sit empty for most of the year.

Following a footpath through the shady oasis, I find a log to sit on to play my set. A group of ladies come and stand behind me, talking. I look behind and realize that they're going to harvest some trees right near me, but are probably uncomfortable working with a strange man so close by… so I move on and find another spot. Here there may be some men who leave their wives and children behind and go work in the city, so I’d best be prudent. I notice here there are some women who seem very traditional and shy, covering their faces when I approach… Other women are clearly hiding modern attire beneath the typical black dress. They are clearly Tafraoute women who live in the city, used to city life and probably only wear the traditional dress when in the village, out of respect.
