I still have the better part of a day before I've got to start thinking of getting back home . No time for any more grand ventures into the unknown… but I certainly don’t want to waste this day either. I’ve already explore to the south of Tafraoute, and towards the north… that leaves one more direction: west. I vaguely remember seeing some cool rock formations 5 years ago when coming in this way from Tiznit. Anyways, to play it safe, I’ll see if I can catch a collective taxi to the a town not too far that direction, and then take my time walking back to town, seeing what there is to see.

First I walk around Tafraoute a little bit. It feels strange seeing so many people… so much stuff being sold… so much activity… after hiking those isolated mountains for 2 days…

Tahala seems like a good starting point, at the far end of the Tafraoute valley, so I catch a taxi that way, where I find a sizeable market town in a large flat area where the Amend Valley and the Tafraoute Valley come together. It seems like such a waste to have so much flat land not being cultivated, when there are folks up in the mountains who break their backs to build terraces just to have a few meters of flat ground.
