1413. Overkill Hike

Wednesday, December 26, 2012
Mairena del Alcor, Andalucia, Spain and Canary Islands
Day 169
5 hrs, 10 .0 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 23.0 kms

Once I reach the main highway, I'm a little confused as to what to do. There's another town, Carmona, up a side road that I feel I need to visit to say I've thoroughly explored Sevilla province. But there doesn't seem to be much transportation from here to there.

Should I backtrack to Sevilla and catch another bus? Should I take a bus to the next town and see if there's another bus I can catch from there?

Or maybe I'll just walk to the next town. I don't feel like waiting around at a bus stop, so that's what I do.

But as I'm walking along a long open stretch of road, this kind of starts to feel like overkill. It's one thing to walk from town to town when I'm doing a Superhike and have a specific goal to accomplish. But this is no Superhike... I feel like I'm walking just because I'm too stingy or impatient to take the bus. And to make things worse, when I reach I countryside neighborhood running parallel to the highway, I end up walking a LONG ways... only to find out that I'm in a gated community and the only way to get out is... back the way I came...

I think I'm only going to walk from town to town if I'm doing a Superhike from now on.

The next town, Mairena del Alcor isn't really all that special. It's got a pleasant little plaza with a neighborly feel, and wandering around the town I find another small Moorish castle--that's closed for the day...

No buses to Carmona, so I go ahead and head back to Sevilla and call it a day.
