While Madrid itself is an amazing city to explore, the surrounding countryside is perhaps the most dreary I've experienced for a European city. Flat, drab, lifeless... and it seems the only way to get out of the city in any direction is walking alongside a freeway.

I'm hoping that Leganes will redeem my quest to turn Madrid in to Superhike. Leganes does have a nice park, a couple of interesting statues (like a school of fish in a traffic circle) and a sort of historical looking pedestrian street, but it still has a pretty generic feel to it. Let's see how the next suburb feels
