McSherrystown, Pennsylvania, United States
Day 308
8 hrs, 18 .5 kms
Day totals: 16 hrs, 38.5 kms

I sort of drew myself a rough map of a zigzag route I'm supposed to take to through country back roads for the shortest route to my next town. I guess I didn't draw the map well enough, so I end up taking the wrong turn, and making a big loop and ending up back on the Littlestown-Hanover highway.... Oh well... That's going to make this a long day.

One interesting thing I did come across on my side trip was the Andrew Schriver Homestead, with a short anecdote of its purchase. Andrew Schriver was an apprentice shoemaker and tanner wo saved up 45 dollars and bought with it 100 acres of land--with the promise that he'd make 100 pairs of shoes as part of the deal! Wonder how many pairs of shoes this farm is worth now...

Just a reminder how America was a land where one could start with very litte, and quickly work his way to prosperity--and this is still the case, to a certain degree ...

Finally, after doing a big loop, I reach the borough of Mcsherrytown, which is really a suburb of Hanover--but it does have definitely a have it's own "soul" and personality.

One thing I've noticed lately is that the Catholic church is the fanciest, biggest church in town. Don't know if it's because Catholics for a majority, of if they just give more importance to building a grand place of worship.

Have to trudge through knee deep snow to reach a park bench for my concert... Do a loop around town, then follow, Mcsherrytown's long Main Street, past its humble little town hall...on until I finally reach Hanover, and call it a day.

...Well, not quite... I still have a 2 hour + bike ride back to my car--which actually feels more tiring then the hike!
