Post-visit: Past the Airport

Highspire, Pennsylvania, United States
4 hrs, 6.5 kms
Day totals: 15 hrs, 36 .5 kms

walk along busy Cameron street, with the rail line to my right and a sheer stone wall to my left. Kind of a dreary feel despite this being a river walk. I decide to check out a stairway that cuts up the stone wall... it leads to an abandoned mansion...

Finally there's a street up the steep slope, so I figure I should see what's up the hill. After a couple hundred yards, I suddenly find myself in a very generic, peaceful middle class suburb... feels far, far detached from the industrial decay and ghetto feel of the riverside below...

Highspire wasn't all that inspiring back in 2007--nor is it today. there is a nice shady gazebo where I can take a rest before continuing on my long, sun-scorched stretch past the airport and on to Middletown. Here I think I'm ready to call it a day.
