On up the road, the valley widens just a bit to allow some farming--althought the wooded hillsides are are never far away. This region has a unique geography--as it doesn't really have mountain ranges, but rather long, straight ridges with straight valleys in between. So if you're going northeast, you can follow these valleys for miles and miles. But if you're going northwest, as I was the previous day, you'll be going up down up down over each ridge.

Suddenly the ridge to my left edge abruptly exposing the other valley on the other side, with flat, fertile farmland--a pleasant change of scenery.

It's not long and I reach my 4th town of the day: the one street village of Shirleysburg. I find a covered area to strum my songs... and call it a day.
