1904. Hiking in the Tropics

Petit Valley, Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago
6 hrs, 6.3 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 16 .3 kms

I follow a big highway heading west until another big highway facing north breaks off. For a country of just a million people, they've sure got a lot of big highways here!

Finally I take a side road up the mountains with side streets that go straight up the jungle covered slopes. I'm looking forward to experiencing jungle again.

I reach my guesthouse, where I take a shower and collapse on the bed. After 2 nights with hardly any sleep, I'm exhausted.

It's almost dark when I wake up, and I feel my energy renewed. OK, maybe hiking in the midday heat might not be such a good idea--but how about an evening hike?

Well, there's the question of security. It seems like a safe area... but I leave all my valuables at the guesthouse just in case, and head out to explore Petit Valley, taking a long walk along the road up the valley, lined with walled in houses all along the way. Not a particular interesting hike--but it does feel good to have "gotten back on the horse" and not letting an exhausting midday hike dampen my adventure spirits.
