1911 Starting the Hike

Grand Roy, Saint John, Grenada
3 hrs, 3 kms

Next day is a Sunday and I've been warned that transportation is pretty limited on Sundays . Hopefully I'll manage to find something that will take me a day's hike away, that way I can hike back to Non Pariel and not worry about finding transportation at the end of the day.

Sure enough, after a short walk, a van passes by, and instead of the intense, rythmic soca music, he's playing church songs... I try to calculate what a good days hike will be and get at the edge of the village of Concord. I'm excited about today's hike. After my initial bad experience hiking in Trinidad, I think I'm in better condition to soldier on through the day, hiking in the hot sun--as long as I take plenty of breaks and there are interesting things to see along the way.

I soon reach my first village, Grand Roy with a painted boulder that say "Welcome to Grand Roy, Birthplace of tthe Calypso King of the World, the Mighty Sparrow"

I look him up, and sure enough! According to wikipedia, Mighty Sparrow is considered one of the most successful Calypso singers ever... (I'm listening to him as I write this)

And I was just expecting a simple farming village...
