Happy Hill, Saint George, Grenada
2 hrs, 4 kms
The next bay definitely begs to be explored more thoroughly . At first it looks just like a regular beach with a forest behind it, but on closer look you can see its a mangrove swamp separated from the sea by a stretch of sand.
There's a spot where waves wash over the sand into the swamp, so you have to time it right and run over when the waves go out. Hopefully the tide won't come in and leave me trapped out there!
It's a beautiful moment, playing music with the contrast of the stormy surf in front and the tranquil swamp behind. Parts of the swamp are dry enough that you can wander around enjoy the bizarre trees with their roots hanging from their branches.
I realize that this it's fortunate that Grenada hasn't developed too much for tourism--otherwise this swamp would be cleared and turned into a beach more suitable for tourists. But these swamps are important for wildlife--and they protect the coast from erosion. Hopefully it will stay this way.
Unable to find another way through the swamp, I backtrack to the "wavegate" and wait for my chance to cross
