1933 The Fierce Atlantic Coast

Biabou, Charlotte, Grenadines/St Vincent
2 hrs, 3 kms

The Atlantic coast has a completely different feel from the bustling Caribbean shore, or the lush, cheery inland . Here there are few trees, and the ones there are, have all their branches pointed inland, buffetted by endless winds. No cheery farming villages here, just a couple of squatter shacks teetering dangerously near the cliffs overlooking the sea. Looks like a pretty tough existence, with the constant wind at all--can only imagine what it's like when a hurricane comes around...

Sometimes the cliffs are interrupted by a stretch of black sand beach, with a couple of fishing boats, those who dare to brave the harsh seas. Finally the coastline curves inland, and I reach the village of Biabou, with a bit more of a cheery feel and a hardy stone church up on a knoll overlooking the sea.
