Before plunging into Johnstown proper, the Traveler opts to veer up the steep western slopes . Normally in this part of the world, the urban areas stay n the valley and the steep hills stay wooded. But here in Johnstown, things are different. The narrow valley where the city lies has been ravaged over and over again by floods, so it's understandable that some folk would opt to live in higher ground.
