Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia

Prior to arrival at Roy
al Langkawi Yacht Club, the club confirmed a space and emailed our berth details however, on arrival it was very difficult to make out the exact location or even the dock names on entry. Despite trying to contact the Club by radio for assistance berthing, we received no response and in fact no help whatsoever to dock the vessel. I was starting to wonder how we were going to mange this on our own!

We slowly entered the marina and thankfully spotted D dock after what seemed like an eternity and started maneuvering the boat slowly towards Berth 37. Drew did an incredible job of steering the boat into place despite it being a tight turn with other boats all around our berth and fighting the currents however, he confidently made it look very easy as he glided into place. I helped with the ropes and the fenders but really Drew managed the job single handed with such precision that I was very impressed by his handling. We got the boat secured and tied off and breathed a sigh of relief, all was safe.

So we've arrived at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club to a beautiful sunset after a glorious week of sailing from Phuket. We raised a glass to toast our successful journey, and sit a few moments taking in our new surrounds... oh how I missed Langkawi, it's lovely to be back.
Langkawi is officially known as 'Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah' and is an
archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea... looks like we'll have lots of exploring to do!

There are some stunning boats in the marina and I can't wait to have an explore round, I've never stayed in a marina before so it's a whole new adventure for me. Once we're settled in we headed up to the office to register at the yacht club however we will also need to check in with Immigration,Customs and Passport Control for arriving in Malaysia in the morning . The marina has a beautiful pool area and facilities, and the local 'Charlie's Bar' looks like a haven for all the yachties who stay here, and we're set in the main town of Kuah which makes it very convenient.

Unfortunately, Drew has a quick turn-around time as he has to return to work in Australia to finish off his job for a few months however, this works out perfect as I can look after 'Malmuirie', apply for my new passport and help with gutting and cleaning her out while he's away. Although he's owned Malmuirie for a while, he's not had the opportunity yet to live on her so it's time to get her ship shape and ready for new adventures.

Next day we check in etc. have a wander around the marina and enjoy a lovely bottle of red wine at Charlie's Bar before Drew leaves. While counting down his flight time and enjoying our wine, we realised that we forgot about the one hour time difference in Thailand which meant a bit of a sharp exit was required. We made our way down to the jetty to catch a taxi to the airport and thankfully he got their in time.

So I wave him farewell and safe travels and head back to the marina taking in the past couple of weeks, the whole sailing experience from Phuket to Langkawi, making a great connection and friendship with Drew, and taking on my new responsibility of caring for Malmuirie while he's away.

I'm excited and looking forward to it but hey... someone's got to do it!
