DV... Destiny's Voyager

Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia

Tony & Santong invited a few of us out on a day sail from the Royal Langkawi Marina on their Cruiser 'Destiny's Voyager' or DV for short. Joe, Anita, Karina and Louise, Raul and Janine and myself all jumped aboard which proved to be a fun filled day...

We all brought some food and drink on board and got ready to leave around 8am, we got the boat untied and smoothly headed out from the marina to explore some of Langkawi's 99 islands. It really is a stunning place and gives you a whole new feel of the island when exploring around.

The cruise out was beautiful with great company and perfect weather, past the luxurious Best Western Hotel, floating villages, deserted beaches, local men fishing, yachts anchored off and watching the impressive eagles flying around... it's a whole new adventure seeing this part of Langkawi.

Joe and Tony took Karina up into the bridge and instructed her on steering the boat which was fab, the look on her face in charge of DV was absolutely priceless. Looking out for obstacles (normally fishing nets) and other boats and she did a fantastic job. So while enjoying our journey out, the girls all lay on the bow of the boat for a sunbathe while it's not too hot, otherwise it's impossible to do and shade is required.

After an hour or so we dropped anchor for our first swim of the day and I'm impressed with Raul and Janine in particular who swam out to one of the deserted beaches for a look around before swimming back. Santong, Anita and the girls were swimming and muckin' around and although I'm still a bit apprehensive in the water I got in too. Tony put out a safety line which provided some comfort but I'm really not a great swimmer, it's something I will need to remedy and get confidence in especially if my life is to revolve partly around boats!

After our swim we jumped on board to dry off and have breakfast, everyone had contributed to bringing or making food and a feast was laid out in front of us which was delicious. We had great fun sitting chatting away with great company although a while later the wind started to whip up and we decided to change location. So the anchor was hoisted up and we went cruising round other islands for a more sheltered spot.

We watched local fishermen and the eagles swooping around and found another anchor however the current here meant that I didn't go in swimming this time however, Joe decided to swim out to an island, climbed the steps up to the top via a staircase to a mast at the top before braving the return journey and the currents. I was worried watching him swim back in as it seemed a long way off and particularly with the currents but soon he was safe and sound on the boat once more.

By this time everyone had worked up an appetite again and fruit and lunch was laid out together with some refreshments. It was fun sitting chatting and some of the characters are hilarious. By late afternoon we were ready to cruise back to the marina but not before I managed to get a quick shot of everyone on the front of the boat which turned out great. The anchor was lifted again although it was a bit of a haul as it was more stuck in the mud but the boys worked away at it.

So after a lovely day we cruised past islands on the way back and safely docked back into the marina. It really has been an incredible experience living at the marina, and I'm loving the people you meet and their kindness. The best shot of the day was a quick snap I took of Tony which just shows his whole character and is probably the best photograph I've every taken of someone, he really is a one off!

Once again another memorable trip... thank you Tony and Santong, and Destiny's Voyager it was a lovely experience.
