We have just got home after 8 hours walking around the sights of Albi. It has the world's largest brick cathedral, St Cecile Cathedral, and from the outside it is almost ugly. As Garth said, it is like a gigantic pile of red bricks! But inside is a different story. It has a 'choir' with choir screens covered in statues of saints and disciples, and just about every bit of wall and the ceilings are covered in paintings. Near the altar is a huge 'last judgement', with the 'good people' lining up for heaven, but the 'bad' are shown in seven paintings of the deadly sins (greed, gluttony, sloth, envy etc) and it is enough to make you ill. People are being boiled alive in vats of oil, or dragged around wheels, or attacked by devils. Not nice at all!
We walked around the La Perouse museum, which is in Botany Bay Square, and provides an excellent history of La Perouse's expeditions around the world
. Then we went through the Toulouse Lautrec museum which has numerous paintings and posters from the whole of the life of TL, some when he was as young as 11 years, and some in the year of his death.
---------
We had another fabulous dinner in L'Epicurian before heading back to the B&B for a couple of quiet red wines. We head off tomorrow for Issigeac via numerous small towns which have great reviews for their beauty. Off to sleep now to recover from today's exertions!

I just hate those pictures of the dammed - think I might one day be boiled in oil or flayed alive - and for eternity!! Doesn't bear thinking about - so I don't...
