Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico
DAY 4 - Back in the city: The Palace and the Aztec Ruins of Templo Mayor!

Today we were looking to move on but with so much still to see in the city we decided to stay another day and headed back to Zocalo square slowly on my behalf ... Firstly we went to find what was described in the guide book as the 'oldest hospital in Latin America.' With nothing else said about it I expected some ancient and beautiful building of wonder, but instead we found it consisted of what can only be described as a 60's looking British building of concrete and metal, Yuk! So we headed on taking a photo just for the joy of it!

As it was the weekend the square was really buzzing with locals and to be honest, seeing many western tourists has been quite a rarity to date in Mexico City. Lots was going on to add to a great atmosphere, people in traditional dress consisting of native American style Indian dress with the most amazing feather head dresses, dancing to loud banging drums and chanting! We sat in the square whilst locals were having what could only be described as some traditional style religious healing ceremony where a copper pot of burning herbs and weeds were circled all over their bodies whilst chanting something to them, followed by a large shell being used to blow into creating loud horn noises echoing across the square .... Definitely need to research what this is more!

We then visited the Aztec Ruins of Templo Mayor, which amazingly were discovered in only 1978, and consisted of the ruins of many ancient Aztec temples, gods, ancient drawings and other artefacts which were incredible, especially to see how well so many had survived and how well they had been excavated. It was like a whole mini ancient city existing within the new one, which in itself was ancient, just incredible to see and read about! Feeling not so great, we then headed to the Palace and walked around the grounds, admiring the many mosaics of ancient times, the gold parliamentary room and beautiful bright buildings at the back of the palace, many large cacti and a few cats oddly! Just to add to the ancientness of the day, we headed to Starbucks!!! Then onto our Café Pagoda one more time for some local cuisine and Ads now favourite dish - ' Bifstec ala Mexicana'. On marvelling again at many more ancient backstreets as we headed back, it then was bed for me at 6.30pm whilst Ads watched Rambo 1, 2 and 3 in silence for the eve (the TV is only in Spanish with no subtitle button!) whilst I ran in and out of the bathroom, then unfortunately in the middle of the night he started to get the rumbles too.....

Day 5 - Not a lot!

Our plan today was to catch the local bus south and head to a little place called Puebla as time for us now is of the essence with no spare days really before we head home..... Unfortunately though the state of both of us meant we were not going anywhere, expect to find a doctor or a pharmacy to make sure that this didn't head down the Thailand hospital route again..... fortunately we found an English speaking doc nearby who piled us with 4 types of antibiotics/pills to set us up for many more bouts to come we are sure and a day spent in our hotel room/bathroom was all that we saw!
