DAY THREE OF OUR TREK, DESTINATION LHANDRUK




............Nearly on the downward hike, phew!

It was an interesting night's sleep, Ads and I were completely smoked out in our room from the fire below which was pretty grim and gave you a lovely taste in your mouth. The man and his dog had snored that night too so after many arguments about who was the culprit, we all ate breakfast and was ready for day three. A slightly easier today apparently, all up then all down, yippee! As we waited a couple of children played with their baby goat in front of us along with the most amazing bright green bird flying around! Today also was the colour festival so we had been warned we may get attacked on route…..

The sky was clear, the mountains stunning so we set off up and up but nowhere near as steep as the first two days. When stopping for a break, most of us were attacked with colour splodges on the bottom of a cork type thing and our guide was in high spirits for the festival with his face covered in coloured spots! At the final highest point of today’s trek and the symbol for the way down, we could now see the outline of the mountains on the other side, including Fish Tail Peak ahead of us, it was stunning! Everyone was in pretty high spirits knowing that from now on it was all down!!

On route a young baby boy decided to follow us and although we kept attempting to turn him back to his parents (wherever they were!) he still kept coming with us! Eventually his father came running down the valley and took him finally home .. The views across the valley were stunning; the sun was out, perfect.

When we reached our final tea house for the night it was beautiful, another house of white washed stone rooms but this time there was no fire below our window and we had a perfect view of fish tail peak from our shutter which was fantastic! That afternoon we started playing football, and then it got serious with the boys playing against the porters so I gave up at that point! Local kids were throwing paint everywhere and at everyone so by this point mum and Ian had been totally splatted with red, blue, green, you name it and Bevan’s face was completely covered!

That eve after queuing for the out house shower we grabbed an Everest beer and drank in the moonlight on top of the roof which was cool. As it was our last hiking night, that eve we played some mad card games which was very funny (the girls won wahhoo!! Well done Grace!), then the porters came and played some local music for us and mum started off the dancing as a local man came and got her up. More local men joined in the dancing, one who was quite fascinating with this permanent smile on his face, as he danced in the Nepalese traditional way. By the end of the evening it had turned into a limbo competition which Ads surprisingly did well at, I was useless and with mum, probably the most inflexible people there! It was a great evening washed down with some whiskey type local drink that Grace had won in the card game. A fantastic end to a brilliant 3 day spent with some great new friends…
