After overnighting in Milna we swam and paddleboarded in the morning.
The boys had another interesting exercise…. The swimming ladder bounced off the back transom and gently sunk 10m to the bottom. Because the water was so clear it was easy to spot…. but a bit more problematic to retrieve.
Despite John being a qualified rescue diver it was just too deep for easy free diving. Eventually they were able to use various bits and bobs from the boat and construct a grappling hook that did the job.
Lesson 1…. Always make sure the ladder is tied securely! Clearly other boats had forgotten that rule as we also spotted an outboard motor lying gracefully on the seabed!
Scooter time again…Murray and I and PJ rented scooters and explored the western end of Hvar island.
The first section was quite hilly with a lot of switchbacks to get up to the top of the ridge line and the little 50cc scooter was seriously underpowered with me riding pillion with Murray.
Stopped at a tiny village of Brusje
and treated ourselves to crepes with local honey. The honey was from the hives around the terrace, and the lemonade made from their lemon trees.
Continued on to Stari Grad, explored this small harbour town before returning to Milna on the ‘new’ road….. which included a very impressive 1km tunnel cutting through the hillside.
Dinner again at Moli Onte… a good move as we were using their moorings…
a fun discussion with young Ivan, a complete soccer tragic, about the Croatia vs Turkey match that night… we were a bit circumspect after dinner on the way back to the boat as Croatia went down 1-0.

Great writing Nikki, just a little correction... the ladder went down 10 meters, just a little too far for a free dive, plus the weight of pulling it up.
