Lazy Day

Sedona, Arizona, United States
As the song title for today states, today was a lazy day. Sedona is very busy on the weekends, with day trippers and weekend hikers (not to mention it was a three day weekend), so we decided to make Sunday a down day. I started the day off by doing some laundry and writing my Jerome blog post. The Eagles happened to be playing the Arizona Cardinals, so the game was shown here, so we watched that. We had left over chili for lunch and after the game decided to walk into town and visit the shops we hadn’t been in. Keith bought a T-shirt and I bought a few things as well. We came back and sat on the patio just relaxing and enjoying the day. I looked up restaurants and Keith did some emails. We had dinner in and decided to watch a movie on Netflix. I had brought the Apple TV and Keith hooked it up. We never got to watch the movie as the internet speed isn’t the greatest and the movie was taking 2 hours to download.
Since we didn't do anything to write home about, I have cut and pasted information on why the rocks are red. The deep red color for which Sedona is famous is due to the presence of hematite (iron oxide, otherwise known as rust) that stains the sandstone of the Schnebly Hill and Hermit Shale layers. The steepness of the terrain is due the fact that the top layers of the strata are composed of basalt and limestone, which are harder than the underlying sandstone. Water running off the edge of the escarpment eats away at the lower layers, creating the shear cliffs. As you can see, it was a lazy day and hardly worth writing about. There isn’t even a picture to see!
