Jetlag has Arrived!

Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus
We slept in today to try and overcome the arrival of jetlag--but to no avail.  We were all rather dopey and sluggish this morning when we went down to breakfast at the Park Beach. They had a nice English breakfast buffet--various types of eggs (hard boiled, fried, and some type of egg patty), sausages, English bacon (the limp kind), olives, salad, sliced fresh tomatoes and also steamed tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, mushrooms, various sliced cheeses, yogurts, cereals, fruit, and all kinds of bread along with some pastries and also of course coffee, tea, and juice.  It is a rather more extensive breakfast than that served at the Jasmine.
Once breakfast was over, we headed to the bus stop to ride down to Old Town. We went to the Agora and were shocked that it was not only fully closed but that they were renovating it to turn it into a new mall type place.  What a shame! It was such a great place with fresh fruits and vegetables sold there but in the last few years it had started to have fewer and fewer vendors.  The few that were left were outside in the courtyard.  We decided for old times sake to have coffee in the cafe area outside the market so we stopped at the Famagousta Restaurant for peach iced tea for Jody, lemon iced tea for Mike, and a frappucino for me.  It was lovely sitting there in the shade just relaxing in the warm weather.
After that we headed for the Castle area to shop at the various little places along the way--the leather shop, the blouse and sweater shop, the lace shop, the Old Port Sea Sponges exhibition center to get Jasmine soap for me and of course the ubiquitous tacky souvenir shops.   Then loaded with our purchases we headed to the bus stop to go back to the hotel.  One of the great things is the bus service which is regular and inexpensive and means that one can get around easily. We take the bus everywhere we can.
Once we got back to our hotel, we headed out for lunch. We would like to have eaten at Santa Maria which is just across the street from the hotel and say hi to Chris, but it was Monday and he was closed.  So instead we walked to Chris' Grill House, formerly the Kabob House.  Jody decided to have the grilled pork kabob, and Mike the chicken kabob. Of course both came with salad and "chips".  I had the grilled halloumi and salad and shared Mike's fries.  Jody and I drank water but Mike had a Keo, which is the beer that is brewed here in Cyprus. As Mike said one can't come to Cyprus and not drink Keo (unless you are me who gets sick when she drinks beer!)
Once lunch was over we headed to Xenia's school (XTMPI--Xenia Tsolaki Metaxa Private Institute) to begin the recruitment meetings for the SLU PhD program in Curriculum and Instruction that we have on the island.   Mike walked up to Slavinikis which used to be Carrefours Department Store to see what was happening with it.  We liked Carrefours much better as this one just doesn't have as many inexpensive items as before.
We finished the recruitment meetings about 7 p.m. and walked back to the hotel to meet Mike.  We were to meet Socrates and family at Chris' Grill House again to celebrate his name day.  This time there was a huge family group there so we had lots of food-assorted meats, tomato/mushroom kabobs for the 2 vegetarians (me and Nicholas), salads, pita, dips, and of course lots of wine along with Zivania at the end.  Zivania is the local liqueur which is REALLY strong! Mike, Xenia's dad, and Socrates were the only takers for it.
By the time we had eaten for hours we were beginning to fade.  Jet lag has really caught up with us and we were exhausted by this time . So we said our goodbyes about 11 p.m. and headed back to our room.  Tomorrow will be another busy day.
