Another Day in Paradise

Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus
We were feeling a little less tired this beautiful morning.  We had breakfast and then headed to the bus to go to Old Town again this morning.  We wanted to pick up a few more souvenirs and have a drink at Il Castello near the old castle.  It was lovely sitting there and watching the people stroll by in the sunshine with the breeze from the Mediterranean blowing on us. One of the interesting things we saw today was the large number of what appeared to be Russian sailors wandering around here in small groups.  I wondered if there was a ship in port? But, finally it was time to catch the bus and go back to the hotel.
Once there we decided it was time for lunch.  It does seem as if we eat and drink a lot here doesn't it?  Well you are correct!  We walked down the beach path to the Dasoudi Restaurant at the end of the Dasoudi Beach Forest.  As it was looking as if it might rain we decided to choose an inside table. Although we weren't really hungry we do know that it will be a long time before the evening meal as Cypriots eat dinner about 9 p. m.  Mike and Jody decided to split the club sandwich which was rather large and I had a Halloumi/tomato pita plus chips.  Once lunch was finished we decided to walk to the Information Center which was at the end of the parking lot only to find that it had closed in August.  Now it is down near the New Port--it seems that the tourist areas were moving that way so this one was no longer useful. We had hoped to get information about using the bus to go to Lefteris Taverna in Germasogeia for dinner tomorrow night but I guess we will find another means of transportation.
After lunch, we changed clothes and went back to XTMPI for more recruitment meetings.  Then it was time to go to Forsos Taverna in Germasogeia for the "At the Crossroads of Culture" dinner party that Xenia and Socrates were hosting.  There was a huge crowd of about 40-50 people there and with the "honoured guests"--Jody, me, and Mike from Saint Louis University in the U.S., Mr. Bertrand Le Mayer from France and Mr. Evgenios Savva and his wife from the Swiss Education Group. We were introduced to everyone as we all were linked to GCIS and XTMPI to assist with education on the island. Tonight was a meat meze which means that there were salads, and various dips and pita as starters and then more varieties of meat that just keep coming.  There were usually 4 to 6 salads and dips and then 8 to 10 different meats offered. This time as there were two vegetarians present (me and Nicolas) there was also a lot of foods for us such as grilled mushrooms, more salads, etc.  And as this is Cyprus the wine flowed like water! By the time we left the restaurant it was almost midnight!  We were stuffed and really ready to just fall into bed! We always marvel that here we can eat and drink late into the night and still go to bed and sleep without problems--that would never happen at home.
