Today was an early day as Jody and I were doing an inservice with the teachers at Xenia's school at 8:30 a.m. The topic was ways to work with students who have attention issues and we presented both theory and practical applications for use in their classrooms. We spent most of the morning with them and then headed back to the hotel. I took a nap until noon as I didn't sleep well last night.
Mike and I decided to have lunch today at the Santa Maria Restaurant across the street. Jody said she was going to skip lunch as she was still full from all the food last night plus breakfast today. For lunch we started with the ubiquitous pita and tzatziki and then a small Village salad and Fish soup with a prawn decorating the top. It was a lovely and not too heavy meal which can be difficult to find here.
This afternoon we worked on recruitment paperwork, met with potential students, and then had a Skype call to the Education Dean at SLU. It was a busy, but useful afternoon. We were supposed to go out to dinner with Stella, a former student, and her parents tonight but they asked that we change it. There was a threat of bad weather tonight--thunderstorms and high winds. So instead of going out, the three of us went back to the Santa Maria for dinner. Mike had the moussaka, a salad, and a glass of red wine. Jody and I both had the calamari, although Jody had a Jacket potato (we call them baked potatoes), vegetables and water and I had chips (we call french fries) and a glass of white wine. The food was very good tonight. For dessert we had sliced baked apples in a thick cinnamon syrup with vanilla ice cream. That was really yummy. One doesn't order the starter or the dessert here, Chris just arrives with what he has and presents it to us without extra charges. It is just part of the culture.
We ate our dessert slowly as we waited for the rain to abate enough for us to rush across the street to the hotel. Once the rain had eased we jay walked through the puddles (the crosswalk is at the end of the block and the hotel and restaurant are in the middle of the block) and made it safely back to the hotel. Tonight was an early night as we were all rather exhausted!
