There were major storms during the night and it was still looking rather stormy this morning. We heard that there had been water spouts up near the town of Zygi just up the coast from Limassol. But there didn't seem to be any damage here in Limassol.
After breakfast we had to go to XTMPI to pick up my computer cord and to the Papas Grocery to buy some strapping tape to wrap around the bottle of Commandaria that Socrates gave us. We were concerned that it might leak in Mike's luggage when we fly in a couple of days. Jody also wanted to get some strawberry tea that she likes. On the way we took some photos of the Jasmine Hotel where we always stayed until 2 years ago. It was sitting there so empty and forlorn. We then headed back to the room as it was getting stormy looking again. We spent the afternoon resting in our room today.
We finally got hold of Christos who said there would be a taxi to pick us up this evening to take us to Lefteris Taverna in Germasogeia. So about 6:45 p.m. we hopped in the taxi and headed up into the hills outside of Limassol. Germasogeia was a village at one time outside of the seaside town of Limassol. As Limassol has grown it has incorporated the village as a suburb. We were going to have dinner at Lefteris Taverna which is the "new" restaurant of Chris, Barbara, and Emily. They used to have a taverna in the area outside of the old market in Limassol where we always had lunch or coffee and spent time chatting with them.
Some of you may remember the restaurant known as Diogene's Lantern which then became Sepia. That was their restaurant. During the time the streets were all being ripped up and redone the tourist business suffered in that area so Barbara and family moved their restaurant here to Chris' village. The taverna is in the house that has been in Chris' family for generations. What a great place! It had all these old photos on the walls, succulents and cacti growing outside, antique tools hanging from the rafters, and locals enjoying food and drinks. After chatting with Barbara, Emily, and then Chris, Jody decided to have pork kabobs with salad and fries, Mike had chicken chunks plus salad and fries while I had a veggie meze which included a village salad, hummus (different but very good), freshly brined green olives, pickled beets, black olives, mushrooms in olive oil, a scrambled egg and squash dish, and of course fries. Jody drank water but Mike and I chose the house wine (red for Mike and white for me). Then Mike had a cup of Cypriot coffee (sludge, ick!) and I had a Nescafe with cream and sugar.
As we were now stuffed and it was getting late, I called Christos to contact George to send a driver for us. We gave everyone hugs, told them we would return in the fall, and got cards for this restaurant. Anyone who is in Limassol should definitely visit there. What a great place and what a wonderful end to the day!
