Lunch and Walking by the Sea

Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus
More storms came through over night making it difficult to sleep with the sounds of the crashing sea and the thunder.  As a result we slept later and didn't get down to breakfast until 8:30 a.m.  As we were later than usual there were many more people making it difficult to find a table and one had to stand in line to get coffee, etc. Once breakfast was over we gathered our materials and headed to the GCIS building to meet with one of the students in the current PhD cohort.
After our only meeting scheduled for today, we returned to the hotel to pick up Mike and then caught the bus to the Amathus stop.  There was no time this trip to visit Amathus or Amathounta as it is sometimes called.  This is a World Heritage Archaeological site that we do so love to visit. So what does one do when there isn't much time?  Well, find a restaurant and eat something of course!  Our choice today was Passalamani Restaurant (now also called Demetra Constantinou Restaurant) which is right on the Sea. Do you remember this place Sandy?  It's the one you and I found and laughed about the "never ending" jug of wine.  Well they still offer that jug of wine it was just not as large as it used to be. We chose to sit under the grape arbor (the very old vines do not look so good this time as it was a very dry summer) near the seaside. It was so lovely here as one had a glass of wine and watched the waves.
The other interesting item here was a pair of white (pink today) pelicans that are pets. When there are not many people in the restaurant they may be seen walking around (last time they came up to the table to beg for food!). I was surprised to see how large pelicans actually are.  But today there were quite a few people in the restaurant so they were in their pen. And of course one could not forget the ubiquitous Cypriot cats that were everywhere.
Today for lunch Jody ordered two appetisers--a Village Salad and a Halloumi/Lountza (Cypriot cheese/ham) plate plus a bottle of water. Mike and I chose the Set menu which was a starter, a main, and a dessert plus wine.  For the starter I had the tzatziki and pita while Mike had Cypriot vegetable soup which he said was very good.  For the main we both had the cod filet plus chips and vegetables and we shared a pitcher of Cypriot white wine. As I said earlier we decided the jug was smaller this year, only about 2 and 1/2 glasses each this time. For dessert Mike had a scoop of vanilla ice cream and I had fresh fruit, the yellow melon which is like a yellow fleshed cantaloupe.
Once we had finished our lunch we caught the bus back to the Park Beach. Then Mike and I decided to walk on the beach as this may be our only time to do so.  One can't come to Cyprus and not at least walk on the beach and in the Sea one time.  I do so love to walk along the beach and feel the salt water splash across my feet.  Once we were back in the room, we gathered up our cheese, crackers, and wine and Jody came over and we sat and ate and talked about our trip so far.  It has been a busy but very lovely time here in Cyprus so far.
