We were up early today and ate a quick breakfast in our room. We checked out then went back to the room to get the food and the coffee pot to take to the front desk. They said they would put all of it in the staff break room for them to use. As we had so much to carry with us, we decided to have the concierge call a taxi for us. We didn’t want to bother with figuring out the train to the airport while dragging all our luggage.
We arrived at the airport in plenty of time. Once there, we checked in and got our boarding passes and checked our luggage. No problems with security today and so we were soon at the gate. When we were called, we headed in to find our seats—we were flying Austrian Air and seated in Economy Plus which was a new section for us. When we saw the seats, we thought this couldn’t be correct and immediately rechecked our boarding passes as well as my travel papers. No this was correct! It was a really nice area between business and economy. We don’t usually fly like this although we decided we could definitely get used to it. They provided each of us a bag of goodies (noise cancelling headphones, socks, eye mask, blanket) and the seats were roomy with leg room and a footrest!). Very nice.
First thing along came the flight attendants with real glassware with orange juice or water and to bring us our menu for selecting our meals. Whoa! That’s so cool! Of course, since it was an international flight, they brought us wine before and during dinner. For dinner, Mike had the garden-fresh salad, chicken breast with potato gratin and butter vegetables and assorted cheese for dessert. I chose the garden-fresh salad, cod en papillote with root vegetables and potatoes and also assorted cheeses. After dinner Mike also had a cognac as an after-dinner drink. This was bad as we may never be able to fly again unless we can fly like this.
We spent the flight in a typical fashion—sleeping or trying to watch movies (Mike kept going to sleep and I had difficulty with my screen freezing). Just before landing they brought us a snack--tortiglioni in a creamy rosemary sauce with zucchini and mousse noir. That was also quite nice. It was an uneventful flight which is what one wants, for sure.
We arrived in Chicago, changed planes, then flew the short flight to St. Louis. Once we had landed, and disembarked with no problems, we got our luggage, and took the shuttle to collect our car. We were happy to be home with so many wonderful memories. Hope you enjoyed the photos and comments. Here’s to the next exciting adventure!
