We have not come far today, just 57 kms to Point Samson, which took us about 45 minutes or so. I needed to get the signed Safer Communities Grant Agreement back to Canberra by 2.00pm, so that meant it was a top priority task this morning. Very thankful that I was able to get it scanned as a PDF document by the lady in the office at Balmoral Caravan Park. She emailed it to me, which in turn was then forwarded to Canberra. The job was done and I was very relieved. They had only emailed the document on Friday. Just as well we were where we were!
Another load of bowls clothes was on the line as soon as we got to Point Samson and by the end of the day they were all packed away under the bed. Peter and I went for a walk in the afternoon and checked out the Fishing Harbour. Peter is always attracted to fishing harbours and the Point Samson fishing harbour is not far from the caravan park. The wind had dropped off by 2.30pm and the tide was well out and was still going out. So the tidal mud flats were well drained and we could see plenty of shining, sparkling little crabs walking around. The albatross is still at the fishing harbour and was sitting on eggs.
The fishing boat that was preparing to go out was of interest to us both. It was a trawler, but the net at the back was very different. Once Peter saw one of the nets on the wharf drying, he worked out how it was used. He believed everything would be dragged into it. They had plenty of blue crates on board and there were lots more sitting on the wharf.
When we returned Dennis and Margaret had arrived, following a visit to Margaret's niece in Karratha. Dennis informed us if we hadn't organised dinner, Margaret had a curry on for the six of us. So curry and rice together in the camp kitchen on a rather cool evening was very nice. It is a lovely big kitchen although the stove was out of order. In actual fact the caravan park is really getting a bit tired and when the rate is $49.00 per night, things needed to be a little smarter than they were! The view we had from the bedroom and kitchen windows of the van was still magical. Lovely views out over the bay. We could see down the road as we were in Bay 69. Not too sure about this 69 figure after our loss at Dampier! The water was not warm enough in the showers. Not that it worried us as we have the shower in the van, but Dorothy did alert them to the fact and they were grateful. But the shower was no warmer next morning. Mobile coverage is poor in Point Samson and the line kept dropping out whilst we were talking with Kim and Jasmine. We have all become very reliant on our mobiles these days. And we were so glad to have our satellite dish. If you don't have a dish, you won't get much of a TV reception in Point Samson. And the people running the park wonder why it is so quiet! But we do love Point Samson. It is a nice quiet seaside town to rest and enjoy ocean view walks and you can always get a good meal at the pub over the road at a reasonable price.

Shame about the park! We have always loved Point Samson and noticed it going downhill two years ago. Must have been cold there too. Well we have had rain since 4pm non stop for the last 5 hours...bring it on! Enjoy your rnd Aus trip xxx
