One More Sleep....

Glenelg, South Australia, Australia
One more sleep and we will be moving the van and car to storage, and flying back to Geraldton for three weeks.  We are really looking forward to our trip back home.  Yesterday we moved closer to Adelaide.  We are staying two nights at the Marion Big4 Holiday Park near Glenelg.  It is not a very big park compared to some.  There are quite a few cabins though and very upmarket units that open out onto the lap pool.  More are being built on the other side of the pool.  There is also an undercover pool, large shed with an indoor tennis court, gym, pool table, table tennis and numerous amusement  machines.  I guess you could say they are being proactive.  With more and more grey nomads free camping, they are looking to attract another sector of holiday makers! People wanting a relaxing weekend with all the recreational activities.  The park is second generation family owned and is very nice.  The security is top of the wazza.  No codes to remember!   The same swipe for the boom gates and the abultion block. Saturday afternoon we went down to the foreshore at Glenelg and I was amazed at how many people were there.   Similar to Fremantle, but I think Glenelg is closer to Adelaide than Fremantle is to Perth.  Trams run back and forth on 'Jetty Road' to the City.  It was a lovely warm afternoon and some people were swimming.  There were crowds out on the jetty.  They were being entertained by a couple of lads putting on a show with their jetski.  One end of a hose was attached to the water flow from the jet ski and the other end was attached to whatever this lad had on his feet.  He could control his height, dive in and out of the water and twist and turn.  Although all eyes were on the guy doing the tricks, I would imagine it was only possible because of the skill of the guy driving the jetski.  It was all very entertaining and we sent a video to Jase and Kim.   It looked like a lot of fun!  The guy doing the stunts did have a helmet on.  The video might have brightened up the boys afternoon as I guess they are very, very tired at the moment.  They have nearly finished seeding.  If all goes well, they'll be finishing off, around the time we land in Geraldton.   The old Town Hall at Glenelg is a beautiful building and is now the 'Bay Discovery & Information Centre'.  There was an Anzac Display on the lower level, honouring local Glenelg World War 1 Servicemen and Women.  Upstairs was the permanent display, depicting the history of Holdfast Bay.  Holdfast Bay is a small bay in Gulf St Vincent near Adelaide, which includes the beach-side suburb of Glenelg.  The bay was named by Colonel William Light.  Light was the Surveyor General for the Colony of South Australia and he was commissioned to find a site for a harbour and a town and then map the surrounding district.  We had seen William's initials engraved in a stone at Rapid Bay a few days earlier.  The first settlers arrived in Holdfast Bay in 1837. Before we came back to the park we found the storage facility and as it was open, Peter was able to see where the van and car will be stored.  He is very happy with the facility.  He was always going to check it out before we rocked up on Monday morning.  It would be a bit late then to try and find somewhere else!Today has been a day of washing, cleaning and getting packed up.   I've sorted a few cupboards, fridge is pretty much empty and defrosted.  The fridge is a 12 volt one and we are leaving it going and hoping the solar panels keep the batteries charged.  It should all be fine and it will be a good test for it.   We are not game to leave anything other than iceblocks in the freezer though!  We don't want to come back to smelly food!  Peter has also washed the roof of the van.  I can't stop him climbing ladders!  He is much more careful these days though, or at least I hope he is!After all the house duties, we decided dinner from Glenelg was on the menu tonight.   So we went down and had a walk along the foreshore enjoying the magical sunset once again.  It was a real balmy evening and once again the whole area was very busy.  We purchased some chinese and came back to the van.  Blog 59!!  I am so glad that I have gone down this path to record our travels.  It does require commitment,  but it is also mental stimulation to discuss and record what we have seen during the day.  So many of you have said that you have enjoyed reading of our travels.  There are a few friends who have also become very commited to commenting.  "Thank You All".  We enjoy reading your comments and many bring a laugh or two.  It helps to keep us all in touch.  See you soon.
Pamandpete signing off for a few weeks.
