A trip like this introduces the element of finite time to accomplish seemingly infinite tasks.  Still undocumented past travels hovered over our heads ever since they were undertaken, but only the establishment of a departure date brings in a sense of urgency that is otherwise hard to realize. 

It also brings in sorely needed respite from the feverish forward planning with its happy recollection of past memories. Sometimes even making new memories of past visits (where you neglected to pay attention to some detail on a visit and embark on a journey of discovery of what it is that you missed out when you were actually there!).
