Our First Full Day on Our Boat

Georgetown, Maryland, United States
Yesterday some sizeable funds transferred bank accounts and the sailing catamaran known as Wildlife was now ours! We traveled approximately two hours from our home in Arlington to her temporary berth at the Georgetown Yacht Basin in Georgetown, Maryland off the Sassafras River, where her previous owner had left her. Our aim was just to take care of some basic preparations for the important following weekend when we would depart Maryland and travel south to Norfolk, Virginia where we had reserved a marina slip for the following year.  So we just enjoyed scurrying about handling a variety of tasks.

We removed and stored away the sunscreens on the main salon windows so that whatever sun appeared throughout the coming winter months could help keep the interior of the boat warm . Donna (being ever compulsively detail oriented as she is!) took height, width, depth measurements of all the storage spaces and cavities within the boat for future reference and inventoried all the equipment and operating manuals that were left with the vessel, bringing some home to begin perusing.  She had scavenged every unused piece of bed linen from home to outfit all the berths (two kings and one double) in preparation for the following weekend's passage south with crew.  She hoped that by strategically placing some desiccant containers in various places, we could capture some of the humidity that had settled into the boat.  Dave began winterizing Wildlife by injecting 7 gallons of anti-freeze into the water system which we wouldn't be using over the winter months. He tested the dinghy motor to be sure it would operate if needed.  Together we removed a variety of worthless material abandoned by the previous owner from the sail lockers and elsewhere to discard, taking home the vinyl cockpit cushions with the hopes that we might be able to eliminate the mildew that was attacking them.  If an item on the vessel wouldn't be used in the near future, we elected to bring it back to store at home rather than carry its weight aboard unnecessarily.  We documented information related to the EPIRB in order to register it to new ownership. A very productive day indeed!
