Trial Run of the Spinnaker

Sunday, April 29, 2007
Norfolk, Virginia, United States
This weekend April 27-29 we did some more cleaning, including a thorough cleaning of the refrigerator.

Dave installed our vessel documentation number in the lazarette . We turned the boat around on Friday so that we could apply the bow lettering on the port side Saturday morning (we had gone through the Christening with just the visible starboard side completed).

We sailed from noon until 5PM on Saturday with John F, raising the spinnaker for the first time and experimenting with wind angles in the light 5 kt NE wind. We had picked this light-air day for our trial run so that we could learn how to handle this massive sail in conditions that were unlikely to kill us. Temperatures were in the upper 60s. Later we spent some time motoring up Hampton Creek to take a look around. Donna docked the boat upon our return around 5 pm.

Later, Donna made up the port forward bed in preparation for sister Betsy's and Dad's visit the following weekend. Dave cleaned the starboard bilge. We rinsed and repacked the main sail. We're looking forward to having our family visit!
