Sail to Rudee Inlet Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States
It has been 3 weeks since our last visit, because this visit would be longer through the July 4 holiday week (Dave's vacation). Three weeks is too long for the boat to be closed up - things were growing in the toilet! We repaired a small rip in the spinnaker and Dave climbed the mast to the steaming light which was out and needed inspection. He was able to make that work with a little jiggling on the wires.

We did a more thorough cleaning of the starboard bilge, disinfecting all of the hoses which had mildew growing on them . The casement-style portable air conditioner we purchased is running with no problem. John F came by with his diving suit to examine the prop zincs and scrub some of the hull--what a nice guy!

On Sunday, July 1, we took Erek, John, Joan and John's granddaughter Amanda for a sail to Rudee Inlet near Virginia Beach.   It was windy and rough early on--we sailed under a reefed jib over 8 kts. The wind died some after crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. We caught a fish on running down the ocean front but it got off. Along the Virginia Beach front we hooked a Laser sailboat--got free with the help of its skipper. Dave dinghied John, Joan and Amanda to land that evening where they had parked a car in advance to get back home. We remained at Rudee Inlet anchored overnight.
