On Friday when we arrived we had a chance to inspect the torn trampoline damage caused by a North Sails salesman who had made a visit the prior week without our knowledge. We had spoken with representatives of the company early in October at the annual Annapolis boat show because Dave was interested in having a Code 0 sail constructed. They indicated at the time that a representative could visit the boat but we were not informed of any particular date. We obviously would have wished to coordinate a visit when Dave could be there to discuss the topic with the company rep. Unfortunately, that is not how things played out and we learned by telephone that the representative had torn a hole through our trampoline and fallen into the water during his visit. Our friend Paul, a Norfolk resident, was able to visit Pas de Deux some days ago and describe to us by telephone the tear that existed. Now we had a chance to see just how big the hole he described in fact was! We had plans to replace the trampoline and now it became more urgent to do so.
Visiting the boat show also gave us a chance to speak with the Furuno manufacturer representatives
. Dave described the problems we were having with the radar. They were of the impression the problems were caused by a defect that the factory could remedy for us at no expense and gave us instructions on how to go about returning our radar dome for repair, which we would eagerly do!
We took some time to visit the Chesapeake Yachts boatyard as a potential location for the coming winter's haul out of Pas de Deux using their trailer. It was one of only two options on the Chesapeake Bay for hauling a vessel of our size out of the water. The other option was the familiar Georgetown Yacht Basin off the Sassafras River in the far northern Bay from which Pas de Deux had originally traveled. We chatted at length with marina staff to learn more about their capabilities at this boatyard and would make a decision soon.
Our friends John and Joan F. just purchased a Lagoon 380 (38 ft) catamaran and we spent Saturday assisting them in sailing it from the Severn River off Mobjack Bay to what would be its new home at a Portsmouth VA marina. They would be selling their Catalina Sutra and naming their new sailing vessel Alize.
The port engine failed to start this weekend. Dave felt it was likely a starter or solenoid issue. We'd have to find a solution quickly since we could not safely leave and return to dock without two fully functioning engines.
