Memorial Day Weekend Cruise

Carter Creek, Virginia, United States
On Saturday, May 24, we began a Memorial Day weekend cruise with our first destination Carter Creek off the Rappahannock River. We left Cockrell's around 1230 hours after repairing the auto pilot.

Suspecting that the problem with the auto pilot was a faulty rudder position indication, Dave wired a new rudder position transducer he had purchased directly to the course computer and it indicated that, in fact, the transducer appeared to be the problem. When he initially installed it and re-wired it to the original wiring run in the engine room, the problem re-appeared, which implicated the wiring as the problem rather than the rudder position transducer itself. He started at the NAV station end and worked back - found a splice ~ 2 feet from the course computer and re-made it. Solved the problem. Now we have a spare transducer.

We sailed in pleasant, light winds from WNW on full main and jib. Always very exciting to pass under the Rappahannock River Bridge. We had set anchor by 1922 hours.
