Horseshoe Bend St Mary's River, Maryland, United States
We sailed from Cockrell's on June 6 to visit St Mary's City MD. We left at 1000 hours, making a nice spinnaker run in very pleasant light winds S 5-10. This took us up the Potomac River and sailing all the way up the St. Mary's River. We didn't douse the chute until inside the anchorage--we were getting to be real pros!

We stayed at this anchorage in Horsehoe Bend for the following day as well, going ashore to tour the historic St Mary's City site which included a view of the replica ship Dove, which in March 1634 carried (along with the Ark) the first colonists to arrive in Maryland under the royal charter of Lord Baltimore .  A representative government was established and St. Mary's City became the first capital of Maryland. We took a nice hike through the woods on what was a very hot and humid day.

The area experienced severe T-storms before midnight. We were awake and monitoring the anchor via GPS with the anchor alarm set. Dave stood outside to watch the lightning. No nearby strikes. Lucky.
