Sail to Herring Creek, MD

Herring Creek, Maryland, United States
Today we sailed from Cockrell's to cross the Potomac and visit Tall Timbers Marina on the Maryland side. The marina was a candidate for an over-winter location for Pas de Deux.  We departed at 1119 hours and enjoyed a fabulous sail on SW winds 10-20 kts and broke our record to date for indicated speed at 14.6 kts. Of course this never seems to agree with our GPS speed which our log told us topped out at 10 kts with sustained speeds at >9. Very, very nice sail in sunny warm weather, arriving to set anchor at 1610 hours.

We took the dinghy over to Tall Timbers Marina which is not a very impressive facility but the staff was nice . We're going to look at a couple more options in Maryland as well. We're trying to lessen the driving time from Arlington to the location of the boat for the winter season.

Before leaving Cockrell's we had replaced the top batten. We picked up a crab pot with the port prop leaving the Smith Point jetty area so we switched to the starboard engine and used that the remainder of the day. While anchored in Herring Creek, Dave dove on the props in Herring Creek to do some scraping. 10-20 SW; sunny & warm; perfect weather.
