One Route to Cockrell's From Crisfield

Cockrell's Marine Railway, Virginia, United States
We departed Crisfield very early at 0630 with two route options to return across the Bay to Cockrell's--either northward in Tangier Sound to cross at the Kedges Straits, then sailing in a southerly direction toward Smith Point; or sailing southward in Tangier Sound circling the southern tip of the island then heading northward toward Smith Point. We felt that the wind favored the second of these two options.

So on this cool day with main and jib we sailed NE 10-15 winds on what proved to be a nice broad reach down Tangier Sound  then gybe'd to reach across the Bay to Smith Point . We tried to follow a "shelf" area extending along the eastern shore of Tangier hoping to pick up some fish but no luck.  It has been a pretty fruitless fishing season for us! The winds lessened somewhat over time but held up well and we arrived at 1145 hours.
