Dividing Creek Wye East River, Maryland, United States
The weather for our travels thus far, while not being rainy, was certainly cool. John and Joan were surely looking forward to heading back south. Perhaps they could explore this part of the Bay another time when weather was warmer. The advantage to traveling in this area of the Bay in the autumn is that you will find wildlife (like migrating geese) and colorful riverbanks with autumn leaves that you would not see at any other time of the year. So if you dress warmly, it can be worth the adventure.

Today Alize headed south, we headed north at 0727 hours to see one other area highly recommended in our cruising guide . Another cloudy cool day with a light NW wind 5-10.  This was an exciting day for us as we would motor thru the Knapps Narrows and under our first draw bridge--the known shortcut to access the Poplar Island Narrows leading to the Eastern Bay.

We were able to sail under main and jib the distance to Tilghman Point where the Eastern Bay meets the Miles River. The wind died after rounding Tilghman Point so we motored into the Wye East River for an anchorage at Dividing Creek. What an absolutely beautiful place featuring the Wye Island Natural Resource Management area. We saw more eagles on this cruise than people.

At anchorage Dave was lucky enough to be only yards from an eagle who swooped into the water beside our boat to pluck a fish from the water and skim over to a nearby log at shore to rest and eat its catch.  It dove close enough for him to hear the splash of the water as the eagle plucked the fish from it, in the otherwise absolute silence of our surroundings. Where's that dern! camera when you want it!!!

We took a lot of "National Geographic" style video of the migratory geese who dominate this area in the autumn. What a thrill! We will enjoy coming back here someday.
