Oh, my; Costa Maya

Costa Maya, Mahahual Mexico, Quintana Roo, Mexico
A port day. Responsibilities come with port days. Today it is Costa Maya. With about fifty Cruise Critic friends, I have a day at the beach at Tropicante, a $2.00 per person taxi ride (yes, only $2.00) from the port to the beach. John and Scott have reserved places for us all; some loungers and some tables and chairs. I opt for a chair at a table under an umbrella under a pair of palm trees. Our host there is a transplanted American, Steve. If you come here, go here.

The day is lazy, partly cloudy, full of Mexican beer and enchiladas for lunch.

With no exercise under my belt, I grab Tom (one of the group) and we walk back to the ship, a short jaunt of around two miles.

Back aboard the shower beckons before I head up to Spice H2O for sail away.

Mexico is not a pretty place from afar. The beaches are great and the water is perfect but the landscape is mostly scrub and it is as flat as Kansas. Sailing away, one realizes that the beauty here is limited to the beach. Then, one wonders what this beach—undeveloped—would look like if it were in the United States. Condos would be everywhere.

Tonight is our Cruise Critic group dinner at Moderno. My table conversation is bizarre (mostly about dentists and pain). Moderno is a Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse. Servers bring skewers of various meats to the table. Here, they don't come very often and when they do come the pieces you are offered are tiny. I was completely unimpressed.

But, no matter. Howl at the Moon dueling pianos are on tonight’s schedule. From nine until one on Valentine’s morning, I rock with them, loving each and every minute of it.

It is about 1:30 in the morning now. I am beat.

And, tomorrow is Cozumel and a special day on tap. More later. Wish you were here, valentine.
