For cruising, Fort Lauderdale offers much to love.
Due to Saturday's busy activity in the Cruise Port the Constellation had to tie up at Terminal 29 which is as far from being centrally located as you can get. The Oasis of the Seas was in alongside the Carnival Freedom, Celebrity Eclipse and the Holland America Westerdam.
We were due to tie up at 7:00am and the first disembarkation was to begin at 7:30. Instead, we tied up at 6:15 or so, I got off the ship at 7:00, took a taxi to the airport, got my Southwest Airlines boarding pass and checked my bag, walked through the TSA Pre-Check line and was seated at gate B3 by, get this, 7:30am.
Celebrity had warned me when I checked in for the cruise that booking a 10:15am flight would be cutting it close. We should board the flight around 10:00 so that means I have only two and a half hours in the gate area to unwind. I know of no other port/airport combination that is this efficient.
My American Express Card Priority Pass membership is useless for lounge access here because the United lounge to which I have access is in Terminal C and my flight departs from Terminal B. TSA will only allow passengers departing from Terminal C to actually go into Terminal C so, here I sit in Southwest’s Terminal B gate area. No matter. I watch and listen to the screeching children and think of grandsons Miles and Elliot who I will soon see and a smile crosses my face.
The cruise was great. The ports and ship were familiar and seeing old friends while making new ones was a special treat.
I am ready for home.
