Sea Day, Spa Day, Great Day

The Patches Work!

B4 slept the sleep of a non-CEO; Jade rocked her as, perhaps, her mother once did and she responded as, perhaps, she did back then those short thirty or so years ago. (This metaphor breaks down if you call to mind a colicky baby vomiting and crying through the night or if you do the actual math which, shame on you, you shouldn't)

Anyway, it was a wonderful night’s sleep that ended to a bright sunny day on moderate seas (7.5 foot swells) as we sail northwest at 15.5 knots in the Adriatic. It’s windy. I am amazed that our front-facing patio is sheltered and quite pleasant and, this morning, shaded.

Still abed, I was nudged by B4 telling me that she thought she should head up three decks and "stake out" two chaise lounges. I, of course, agreed and got up and did that very thing while she continued to luxuriate, stretch and gradually gain her footing on a floor similar to what I imagine an RV might be like as it motored down a smooth interstate highway.

At just before eight o’clock, the chairs we wanted are already taken but I snatched the two adjacent spots. I look forward to later seeing the early birds who grabbed those worms. Both the air and sea temperature is a cool 69 degrees and it is windy. Sitting out here may or may not be a good idea during the morning hours.

We gained back our lost hour last night and, at this moment, we are 24 hours from Venice. The world is good and we are delighted to be in it.

Poolside turned out to be too windy and a bit too chilly so we ensconced ourselves on our patio in the sun but out of the wind. Lovely. Beryl has fallen in love with the spa and availed herself of services there not once but twice today. Paul walked his eight miles (during which he did the math on the Fitbit congratulations on the Nile badge and has decided there is no way he has earned it).

Dinner tonight is at Cagney’s, the steak specialty restaurant where, on the first night, we had a wonderful ribeye. We are anticipating a return engagement just as fine.

Another bottle of champagne has arrived in our room along with the typical evening snacks and, as we sit on the patio, we are reminded of just how fortunate and lucky we two are. Life has given us much; some earned some just occurring. For both, we are thankful.

Tonight our bags go out in the passageway by eleven so that the ship’s complex docking and de-guesting can occur without a hitch. Paul is packed. Beryl is not.

Beryl and Paul,

I have been traveling myself and reading your posts, though only now commenting. My travels have taken me to Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. For work. I'm am so thankful that I can enjoy your travels and poetic narratives - a vicarious vacation. It all sounds splendid.

My mother didn't rock us when we were 4-let alone 34!! She parked our strollers in front of an open window for fresh air!!
