Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark
The Fairytale capital of Copenhagen will enchant you. In 1397, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway joined forces to create the largest Viking Empire in history. And Copenhagen was its capital. Of course, it made perfect sense. Copenhagen was positioned at the heart of the Baltic trade route, and the small fishing village had developed into an important trading center in a mere 250 years. Industry and commerce flourished, and Danish trade was later on extended to the East Indies. But the mid-19th century produced the greatest cultural and social advances, during Denmark's Golden Age. Today, Scandinavia’s largest city enjoys one of the highest standards of living and is an elegant destination with much to see.

Copenhagen is full of castles and crown jewels, galleries and museums, cathedrals, and canals. Tivoli gardens is a unique combination of picture-perfect gardens, lakes, and more than 100,000 colored lights (but can only be seen at night - we did not see them). We drove by the statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s "Little Mermaid" and toured one of Copenhagen’s most famous storybook-like castle, the Rosenborg. Did not see the Christianborg.
