Couple of Days in the Capital

Lisbon, Estremadura, Portugal
Today saw the start of the Easter holidays so our ACSI card is useless and the campsites all hike their prices for two weeks. We therefore headed for the aire in Lisbon for our next stop, but on arrival the aire has gone and the signs now specifically ban motorhomes. Regardless there were about 15 parked there so we joined them.

This afternoon we decided to stay local, check the van regularly and take in the sights of Belem . Whilst this is 6km from the city it is beautiful and all the tour buses come here. It's alongside the river and you’ll see from the pictures there are some great sights as well as loads of museums that we didn’t picture.

We were up and out early so that we could breakfast in local style at the vast and hugely popular Pasteis de Belem and it was soooooooo worth it, but a rather naughty breakfast. (has Penny mentioned how much she likes Pastel de Nata???)

Next we took tram 15 to the city and then tram 28 (old fashioned) around the city. Unlike San Fransisco this tram does windy lanes and is rather scary if you aren’t sat down, but it truly is a great way to see the city.

We got off near Graca as advised to save a huge climb to the castle. After a quick look at the castle we headed through the maze that’s known as the Alfama, looking at the 'tat‘ shops but really taking in the amazing views, passing the Cathedral back down to the main shopping street.

Oh my the calories Penny is consuming today, her new favourite treat is Ginja in a chocolate cup (Ginja is sour cherry liqueur), well if the Monks can have it so can Penny!!
