What no Chocolate Festival!

Obidos, Estremadura, Portugal
On recommendation from everyone except our guidebook our next stop was Obidos. On the way we stopped for shopping and Mark to have his haircut so it was lunchtime before we made it to our destination.

Given it was so hot and siesta often means towns are deserted, we decided to sit out in the sun/shade and head into town mid afternoon .

If only we had arrived a week earlier, we would have been in time for the Chocolate festival instead of just the empty stalls showing us what we'd missed. Regardless it was a nice town to have a wander round and climb the walls to see the great view. More Ginja was consumed to make up for missing the chocolate festival, well that was our excuse anyway.

We decided to head back to the van and then go out for dinner later and we can now confirm that Obidos is a heaving and atmospheric tourist town during the day but totally empty and eerie by evening. Dinner was nice and didn’t contain garlic, so we had a nice if lonely time!
