Today is Marks birthday so once cards and presents were opened we set off to get him his history fix as a birthday treat.

First stop was Constancia where the town was in chaos as they were getting ready for a fiesta . We decided to miss this town and head 5km down the road to where you catch the ferry to go across to the Castela del Amourel. Well when we say ferry, it was a very small boat that had seen better days. Anyway the novelty won out and off we went. Penny nicknamed the Island Wasp Island as they were in nests all throughout the walls of the castle, yuk!!

Our next stop was just 21km down the road at Tomar where there was a monastery for us to look round which used to be the Templar Knights headquarters. The drive from Constancia to Tomar for the first 7km up to the Dam was absolutely stunning.

Tomar castle/monastery was massive and quite magnificent so took us a good few hours to look around. We then had a walk round the town where there is a nice pedestrianized area and a lovely park with waterfalls, all in all a very nice stop. If we had more time we would have stayed in this town, but we decided to push on to our next destination ready for tomorrow and that was Fatima.
