Port Tasting and a Cheese Castle

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal
Given Mark has somehow injured his leg overnight (genuinely but no idea how) we've foregone the boat ride and walk through the nature reserve and headed straight for Porto.

After going round in circles through the city centre we decided to head to Continente to get our shopping and the internet to find an aire/campsite . Typically the parking for this hypermarket complex is restricted to vehicles less than 2 metres high, so we had to park on a dubious street.

Shopping done, lunch eaten and internet researched we decided to go for the campsite.

On arrival we found it was a campsite we’d been warned against, so we had a look round, decided that whilst it was expensive, the beach location was nice and we could get the bus to Porto, so it would do us for 2 days.

Oh my god, the lightening storm went on and on then the wind took over through the night so much that it was a huge relief when morning came. Penny actually felt sea sick the van was rocking that much!!!

We had a lovely day in Porto today. As it was quite a sprawling city and Mark was still struggling a little we had the open top bus and then the cable car to explore, although we did finish the day with a few hundred steps!

The cheese castle was a little disappointing, but we kind of expected it would be, the Port caves were pretty good and Penny finally got to try Portuguese ice cream in it’s very random flavours (we tried pastel de nata, chestnuts with port, biscuits and cream). Whilst the ice cream was nice for a change, we’ll stick to Italian for our treats in future.
