After quite a long drive from Scunthorpe to the Channel Tunnel and then an hours delay, we decided to just travel 15km to the aire near Calais that we’ve started using. We weren’t surprised that it was busy, but we were surprised how full it was, there was no way the buses would get round and their spaces had gone too. Fortunately as we left the aire we spotted campers in the field straight opposite, so we joined the 60 other motorhomes wild camping in a field.

What we didn’t realise was that Ascension day weekend is a massive 5 day holiday in most of Northern Europe, hence the masses.
