Today we thought we’d try an old campsite that’s now an
aire, hoping to find space maybe for a couple of days until the weekend madness
is over. Our luck was in and there was acres of space in the Vogelpark aire in
Antwerp.
Given it was only 60km away we were set up in our new
destination and ready for exploring by 10.15am.
Antwerp is the 2nd largest city in Belgium, so
much bigger than Ghent but honestly just as stunning. The centre around
GroteMarkt and Groeenplatz is overflowing with culture and beautiful buildings,
then the shopping streets wind their way around the city for miles and the
architecture of the shops is just magnificent. We managed to find Antwerp
Brewery (De Koninck) half way between the city and our camp, so it was a great
place to rest on the way back.
The temperature today was late 30s and if there hadn’t been
a breeze we wouldn’t have coped, as it was we walked extra steps just to be in
as much shade as possible.
Another city visited in Belgium and another success, this
country is definitely a favourite of ours, it’s just the inclement weather that
lets it down, just like the UK really!!
