Nashville, Tennessee, United States
I first met Craig Snow when we were both working in Biloxi, Ms. after hurricane Katrina hit. Craig has been a missionary for 25 years. His family has served in South Korea and Hong Kong. His four children spent most of their youth in Asia. Craig worked for Mercy Ships as the Chief Operating Officer of one of their ships. In 2001, the ship that he was on established Gulfport, Ms. as their home port and Craig was appointed to be the Public Relations man on the ground when they are in port. He developed many friends in the area and when he got a call from a widow asking if he knew anyone that could help after Hurricane Katrina hit, Craigs servant heart was moved and he went to Biloxi, Ms. to help for two weeks and stayed for four and a half years, rebuilding homes there with an organization called Hope Force. Hope Force was one of the many groups that showed up to help and it was the last to leave. Craig now divides his time between Nashville and West Virginia. Just before he left Biloxi, he had seen a documentary on TV about the plight of the poor in WV and again his heart was moved to take action. He bought a distressed property in War, WV and restored it to a volunteer center with lodging, showers, kitchen and meeting hall as well as tool storage shed. Here in Nashville, we are working on homes that were flooded on May 1st and 2nd of 2010. I posted a YouTube clip on FB earlier today. You know- a picture is worth a thousand words- One of the homes we visited today was on top of a hill and you wouldnt have thought that it would have been affected by the event but it was. There was two days of torrential rain and it caused the hill behind this house to give way and all of the mud, dirt and large trees came avalanching down into the back of this brick veneered home. The city at first condemned the property and then told the owner that they would be responsible for stabilizing the remaining site behind the home.(First bid $450,000- not paid for by insurance) He hired a geologist to say that the damage was done, all of the dirt had slid away from the granite underneath and now the city will let him rebuild the home. Craigs got six weeks of Amish folks coming and that home will be their project. Ive contacted the Nashville Habitat and will be working with them on a renovation for Saturday and will leave Nashville for a conference in Bay St. Louis, Ms for a week then off to Plaquimans parish, Louisiana. Bye for now. Peter
