Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
Well, all I can say to those concerned with an overcrowded country, is that you should take the drive I took the last two Sundays. Last week was eleven hours worth from Plaquimines parish, Louisiana to Mason, Texas and today was another 12 from Mason to Sante Fe, New Mexico.Through western Texas- nothing but flat fields and north from there to SF, a little more hilly but still no sign of civilization for hours upon end. The Schultzes (my hosts last week) gave me a great sendoff dinner party and invited two couples that I had met on some of Larry Wingers Kairos Carpenter mission trips to Biloxi and Bridge City Texas. Bob and Linda Laury- who give their regards to Lee Struck and Jerry and Bev Fox. Bev was God's instrument in leading us to the church of the Nazarene in Orange, Texas which became volunteer camp for 1 1/2 years with Pastor Ray and home for Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders. It was hurricane Ike that put the majority of the homes in Bridge City under a few feet of water. Just enought to mess things up. Anderson Cooper and CNN were only there for 2-3 days and then the Rebublican National Convention grabbed hold of the news cycle. My next to last day in Mason, I had a visitor, Pastor Corky Spitler, who came over for the day. He lives about 100 miles away from Mason. But then, everything down there is a hundred miles away. He helped me finish up the simple, decent shower surround (with the Lone Star mosaic- man, it was hard cutting up all those little pieces!) at the Schultzes guest bath. Picture to follow if Corky remembers to email me the pictures he took (are you there, Corky?) On Saturday Jerry took us all out to a beautiful 300 acre setting next to the LLanos river where he has been working for a man for about a year and a half. Just a spectacular view of layered colored bluffs jutting up from the stone bedded river- carved out either by the finger of God or millions of years of water, wind and erosion or both. All of the stones were "harvested" from the river and were quite varied in color, turquoise, reds, tans, yellows and browns. Sorry no pictures- the fire ate my camera- Ive got a new phone/camera coming here by fedex tommorrow I hope. On the way here I passed thru, but did not stop-I'm on a mission- the Roswell UFO museum. All the shops along the strip in Roswell all have models of the green aliens standing gaurd out front. Monday is a holiday for the affiliate here, so I plan a day trip up to Taos to see the Earthship houses made of old tires stuffed with dirt and incorporating lots of green technology. That's all for now- Peter
