Had a great week last week with a small group of high school boys from St. Joe's Prep School in Philly who came down to help us for a week. They were all to be seniors in the fall and they have a mandatory 40 hours of volunteering to do in order to graduate. They each contributed $200 for the trip and the school picked up the difference of expenses (airflights, rental cars, etc). We worked on two homes, the one on Adema which is in the dangerously close realm of being completed and the other is the home that wasnt there last week on Orangewood. The east wall of the home that wasnt there last week now has the siding installed and painted. The group actually painted the whole house, only its not installed yet. We prime the hardi siding before it is installed so that on the way down, all we do is caulk and touch up and were done. So they painted all of the siding for the whole house but only installed it on the one side. At Pam Williams house on Adema, besides all of the pesky punchlisty items, one of the main chunks of work was the tile around the (owner provided) whirlpool in the master bath was the tile on three sides surrounding it and the apron in front of the tub. I did a little therapy on the weekend and installed it myself. bart says I'm not supposed to have a toolbelt on during the week and not do any work because if Im working, then who is watching the volunteers. So I do my therapy on the weekend. I like doing the work, as some of you may already know. This week we have another group of nine students and two faculty down from the same school. Monday (today) was first work day for them and thedy did real well. Alex showed them how to erect the scaffold on the back of the house. I turned around and there it was, boom! Scaffold up. Bill the plumber started today also and the electrician says thurs or fri for starting the electrical rough-in. Ive been working with my son Alex and a new volunteer, Rebecca Boon from Pennsylvania. Both are learning fast and well and are helping to "herd the cats" or lead the volunteers so that they can work safely, know what they should be doing, feel that they have contributed to the cause by coming down here, and leave happy and go back and bring friends back. Rebecca keeps reminding me that I need to let them know what a good job they did. Back at Adema, we have 5 longer range volunteers- Doug B, John and Robin from Virginia, Craig and Brent. They have a bunch of handrial and pickets to do and are aiming to complete the home this week Thursdayish. Steady pressure and dont panic. I believe we can finish the exterior siding this week at Orangewood. Let's see. Out for now. Peter
